“The most important thing is just to not listen to anyone who says it’s impossible,” says Regas Woods. Since “impossible” isn’t in Regas’ vocabulary, not listening is one of his best attributes.
William Regas Woods, 27, is a bilateral AK amputee. He was born with a congenital anomaly that prevented proper development of his legs. His mother decided early in his childhood to amputate so he could learn to use prosthetic legs.
According to Woods the most important factor in his development was a nurturing family and his faith. “She never treated me any different,” Woods said of his mother, Deborah Simon.
“He’s an exceptional young man,” Simon says with pride. “He is always doing things the doctors tell him he can’t do. He does more with his life without legs than most people do with two. When God took his legs, he gave him a whole lot more.”
Woods had been told by several doctors that it was “impossible” for a bilateral amputee to run professionally. Proving them wrong in a huge way, Regas is an international record-holding runner for bilateral amputees and is considered to be the fastest bilateral amputee in the world.
When he’s not busy breaking track records, Regas is an extreme stuntman with all terrain vehi
cles (ATV) and stunt bikes. He recently appeared on the Speed TV show, Super Bikes. When he’s not on a bike or an ATV, he drives a vehicle with a standard transmission! Regas also sings with the “holy hip-hop” gospel group, C.I.P. - Christians in Praise. He does all of this while assisting other amputees and orthotic patients as a full-time technician with Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics in Florida.
Always looking for new challenges, Regas doesn't let anything stop him. “Man says what’s impossible, God says what is possible.” Amen.
