Hanger > Prosthetics

In the United States, there are approximately 1.7 million people living with limb loss. Each year in America more than 150,000 people face the amputation of a limb. Many of these have vascular disease, diabetes or cancer. About 70 percent are older adults. Traumatic limb injury can also result in amputation. Most often these injuries are sustained in motor vehicle accidents, through on-the-job or recreational injuries, and during military service in combat zones. In all of the above situations, the removal of a limb is usually a life-saving procedure.

Congenital limb differences, some of which lead to amputation, are more rare. Of every 100,000 births in the United States, about 26 babies are born with partial or malformed limbs. In these circumstances, it is of course the parents of these children who must initially cope with the limb difference.

The Hanger Advantage

Specialized programs like our Upper Extremity Prosthetics Program (UEPP) and Lower Extremity Prosthetics Program (LEPP) are part of what we call The Hanger Advantage. Each patient is placed in a program that focuses exclusively on his or her specific needs. Hanger also proactively partners with suppliers in the design and development of new and proprietary componentry, clinical processes, tools and products. By bringing these advances into our clinical practice we can help people make dramatic improvements in their mobility and independence.

As the largest provider of prosthetics, orthopedic supports and braces in the United States, we serve more than 650,000 people each year. Our nationwide network of over 640 patient care centers spans 45 states and the District of Columbia. Behind our corporate persona is a group of more than 1,000 skilled practitioners who focus on a singular purpose: moving lives forward.

We combine the resources of a national company with the convenience and personal touch of local patient care centers. That means prosthetic and orthotic users can get quality care without having to travel far from the comfort and security of their homes. At the same time, our team of clinical experts is always available for advice and can provide hands-on assistance on any case and in any office. An internal research and development team means that discovering better ways of doing things is simply part of our day-to-day operations. And as the industry leader, we’re able to keep investing in the most advanced technologies for our patients.

Our practitioners are committed to you and your success, whether it is walking your daughter down the isle at her wedding, playing with your children or competing in sports at a national level. We are here to listen to you, consult with you, and then tailor prosthetic care to your individual needs and goals. We even guarantee personalized attention to every Hanger patient throughout their treatment and recovery.
