Jarrett Perry lost his leg above the knee two days after he was born due to Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS), a disease in which one child receives more blood than the other through blood vessels in the placenta. By the age of two he was already swimming in the Chesapeake Bay and by the time he was four he knew that it was something that he was "pretty good at."
In the coming weeks, Jarrett will be defending his 2004 Paralympic Games and 2007 World Championships gold medals in the 100m backstroke.
Jarrett is student at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, majoring in Aerospace Engineering and International Relations.
